Short Review
In Diamonds from Destiny, Book 2: Following the Trail, by Wayne T. Walker, Adam Durant renews his determined quest to discover a diamond-rich orebody. Picking up momentum from Book 1,the narrative immerses you in the vast, frozen wilderness of Canada’s Northwest Territories and the tense, political world of corporate diamond exploration. Yet, amid bureaucracy and intimidation, a partnership with South African, Taahir Kholwa, emerges, offering both hope and a spark of defiance within a system bent on conformity. The heart of this book lies in Adam’s enduring ambition and the spiritual compass guiding him northward, convinced that the barren lands hide secrets worth fighting for. Long Review
This breath-taking sequel, Following the Trail, is the second book in the Diamonds from Destiny series. A fast-paced thriller, it is set in the icy, inhospitable Northwest Territories of Canada. Geologist, Adam Durant, the main character, pursues his unwavering passion to achieve his life-long goal of discovering a diamond orebody.
He renews his brief romance with Adaline Brodeur, the gorgeous blond and blue-eyed beauty. Having previously captured his heart during their brief amours encounter, she also challenged him to shed his social inhibitions, which were triggered by his scarred face. From that point on, love and danger collide in the frozen north. As business partners and lovers, the two adventures overcome an assortment of challenges and protect each other in uniquely dangerous situations.
Confronted by the Consolidated Diamond Corporation, the world’s largest and dominate diamond company, they fight for survival of North Arrow Exploration, Adam’s newly established company. Up against this unprincipled adversary, they strive to win the race for diamonds near the arctic circle.
Adam, Adaline, and his team embark on this life-changing adventure as they experience exhilaration, only to realize that instead of gemstones, they’ve found a non-commercial industrial diamond deposit. Undaunted, they follow an ancient trail of indicator minerals left by a retreating glacier to a kimberlite diamond source hidden under a lake in a land populated by thousands of glacial lakes.
A spreadsheet, detailing the location and drilling results of a fabulous diamond orebody, is stolen by Consolidated from North Arrow. Does it represent a disaster for North Arrow or was it meant to be a clever enticement all along?
Even though the book features the geology of diamond orebodies and the exploration procedures employed to find them, it moves along with its more than fair share of tenacity, courage, romance, suspense, subterfuge, and retribution.
